Assistant Editor

Location: Chiswick, West London

Position: Full-time

Military History Matters magazine is looking for an Assistant Editor to join its editorial team. The successful candidate will be ambitious and hard-working, and will be a talented writer and researcher. You should have some experience of editing and be looking for your next career challenge. A keen interest in history and a demonstrable understanding of the subject is essential, a degree in the subject is desirable.

Military History Matters is a high-quality, informative and engaging title and you will need to be a strong all-rounder who can work to deadlines, write lively copy, and commission and edit features for this 84-page magazine. Other responsibilities include forward-planning, producing flatplans, picture research, budgeting, updating the magazine website and social media, and liaising with other departments regarding all aspects of the brand.

The magazine is one of three published by Current Publishing Ltd, a well-established family-run business with lots of vision for the future and a friendly team atmosphere.

Location: Chiswick, West London

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented designer to work for Current Publishing, a well-established, family-run business that produces three magazines in the history and archaeology sectors. We have lots of vision for the future, a friendly team atmosphere, and are based in a beautiful riverside location.


  • Magazine design and layout across the range of titles, and to tight production schedules.
  • Preparing pages for print, image manipulation and optimisation, art-checking, and PDF creation
  • Additional design work on marketing materials, supplements, advertisements, and web graphics.

The Designer will report to the Art Editor, and also liaise with various editorial, sales, and marketing personnel. Good communication skills are therefore essential.


The position would ideally suit a creative designer with experience in magazine layout, who is now looking for a role in which they will be heavily involved in the design of three prestigious titles, two with a global reach.

You will need to be fully conversant with Adobe Creative Suite, and have an in-depth knowledge of both InDesign and Photoshop.
